Allium is the Latin word for garlic.
The fist-sized, violet pink, spidery flower heads are an unusual shape, a wide oval created by flower stalks of unequal length. The look is slightly otherworldly and very intriguing it develops into large clumps that can be divided every few years. However, they really don't like to get waterlogged, so add a little grit to the soil when you plant them.
