Allium schubertii is an almost celestial, pinky-purple body of star-shaped flowers atop a leafless, upright stem. This striking Allium also known as 'Schubert's Allium' is another star attraction that will continue to delight year after year. Linear, cylindrical leaves at the base of the stem die back in the Spring in preparation for the main event, the appearance of these fabulous flower umbrels. Each spherical umbrel bursts into being reaching an impressive 30cms diameter. The flower stems are arranged on stems of varied lengths for a stunning overall effect.
This surreal flower will attract admiration of all who see it, not to mention pollinators. Plant in clusters and the clumps can be divided every few years, to share, if you can bear to part with them.
Plant your Allium bulbs with some grit in the soil to stop them becoming waterlogged, apart from that they are easy to grow and will add unique and impressive interest to your garden.
