Allium is the Latin word for garlic.
With massive lavender-purple heads, the Allium 'Gladiator' develops into large clumps that can be divided every few years. However, they really don't like to get waterlogged, so add a little grit to the soil when you plant them.
The magnificent, spherical blooms of Allium 'Gladiator' are up to 16cm across. Flowering in May and June, the flowers are followed by skeletal seed heads for a spectacular autumn display. Undemanding and easy to grow, these purple alliums are guaranteed to add the 'wow' factor to borders and they make excellent cut flowers.
